As mentioned earlier, band members such as drummer Peter Hook took musical inspiration from the Banshees that helped form what we now know as Joy Division. The main singer, Ian Curtis, has left one of the biggest impacts on the modern-day alternative and indie genres of music. Love Will Tear Us Apart is what defines the gothic rock and post-punk genre more than anything; it’s moody yet upbeat with a very catchy melody. The drums and guitar sounds are the pioneers of goth music. Fun fact: after Ian Curtis’ death in 1980, the remaining members formed a new band called New Order with their hit song Blue Monday.
